This internship will consist of two roles: one in Postal Network Optimization, and one in Cargo Handling Operations.
The Postal Network Optimization intern will seek to improve postal handling processes and provide guidance on creating lean warehouse flows. The expected outcome is to improve postal KPI performance and increase postal revenue. Responsibilities/projects may include:
Learn, study, process map and make recommendation on enhancements to the SFO and EWR mail processing facility and process
Mail Density Study – Conduct tests and measurement to provide benchmarks for density factors specific to each mail product
The Cargo Handling Operations intern will seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of cargo handling processes driving KPI improvements, higher customer satisfaction and higher contribution margins on freight shipments. Responsibilities may include:
Shipment Routing Improvement – Improve process to plan and route cargo shipments seeking the most efficient and cost effective routing for shipments with consideration to transfer points, dwell time and capacity management
Create standard processes and procedures for end to end cargo handling
Pursuing a Bachelors degree focused in Industrial Engineering, Lean Six Sigma, Supply Chain Management, Logistics/Process Management, or Continuous Improvement
Rising Junior or Senior in undergraduate degree
Prior work experience in logistics or process engineering
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Lean Six Sigma Certified and/or experienced
Production design and manufacturing experience
Prior experience/coursework in Finance or Economics
A strong desire for organization/ efficiency and strong time management skills
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
